Terms of Service

1. Platform Description

Stunion is an online marketplace that connects parents at international schools in Korea with verified tutors for SAT, IB, and AP exam preparation. Stunion is not a tutoring service; it is a platform that facilitates introductions and payments between independent tutor contractors and parent clients.

2. Independent Contractor Relationship

Tutors listed on Stunion are independent contractors, not employees or agents of Stunion. Stunion does not supervise, direct, or control the content of tutoring sessions. Parents contract directly with tutors for educational services. Stunion bears no liability for the outcome of any tutoring session.

3. Fees

Stunion charges parents and students nothing. Browsing tutors, intro calls, messaging and introductions are free. A tutor's listed rate is what the parent pays the tutor, with nothing added.

Stunion charges the tutor a matching service fee (매칭 서비스 이용료) of 15% of the first 4 lessons' fees, per student. It is charged in 4 equal instalments, one as each of those lessons is taught — nothing is payable before teaching begins, and a tutor whose arrangement ends early pays only for the lessons that took place. The fee is VAT-inclusive, rounded down so it never exceeds 15%, and a valid promo code waives it in full.

No further fee is charged for that student, however long the arrangement continues. Stunion charges no fee of any kind to parents or students.

4. Tax

Stunion does not pay tutors and therefore does not withhold tax. Tutors receive lesson fees directly from parents and are responsible for declaring that income themselves (종합소득세). No 3.3% 원천징수 is deducted and no 원천징수영수증 is issued.

The matching service fee is paid by card, and the card sales slip (신용카드 매출전표) issued at payment is the tax document for it — it is 적격증빙 under Korean tax law and is reported to the National Tax Service by the card company. A 현금영수증 is not issued for a card payment, and a separate 세금계산서 cannot be issued for the same transaction.

5. How Lesson Fees Are Paid

Lesson fees do not pass through Stunion. Parents pay tutors directly, on terms the two of them agree. Stunion does not collect, hold, escrow or forward lesson fees.

Stunion therefore cannot refund lesson fees. Refunds, cancellations and disputes about lesson fees are between the parent and the tutor. Parents are advised to pay per lesson or per month rather than a large sum in advance.

Stunion previously held package payments in escrow. That arrangement ended in October 2026. Any package purchased before that date remains governed by the terms in force when it was bought, and unused sessions on it stay refundable by Stunion.

6. Disputes

Because Stunion does not hold lesson fees, it cannot resolve a fee dispute by returning money. What it can do, and will: investigate the facts, and suspend or remove a tutor's profile where a complaint is substantiated. Parents are encouraged to report problems even though no refund can be issued.

Where a tutor's matching service fee has been charged and the arrangement does not proceed, Stunion refunds that commission to the tutor on request.

7. Tutor Credential Verification

Stunion manually reviews university transcripts and test score documents submitted during tutor onboarding. A "Verified" badge indicates that Stunion has reviewed the submitted documents and found them consistent with the tutor's stated credentials. Stunion does not guarantee the authenticity of any document and is not liable for fraudulent submissions.

8. Prohibited Conduct

Users may not:

• Exchange personal contact information (phone, KakaoTalk, email) through the platform to circumvent the booking system.
• Submit fraudulent credentials during onboarding.
• Harass, threaten, or defame other users.
• Use the platform for any purpose other than legitimate tutoring arrangements.

Violations may result in immediate account suspension and forfeiture of pending payouts.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Korean law, Stunion's total liability to any user for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the platform shall not exceed the total platform fees paid by that user in the three months preceding the claim.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Disputes shall be submitted to the jurisdiction of the Seoul Central District Court as the court of first instance.

11. Changes to These Terms

Stunion may update these Terms at any time. Users will be notified by email at least 7 days before material changes take effect. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
